Week of 5/21 Events

Mon 5/21

4pm - Conversation Hour: Political Campaigns

We will read the Foreign Affairs Magazine article titled, "Campaign Tips from Cicero: The Art of Politics from Tiber to the Potomac". Following reading the article, we will have a discussion about political campaigns from Roman times to today.

Tue 5/22

2pm - Movie Screening: "Food Inc." + Conversation Hour Healthy Eating and a Healthy Lifestyle

This conversation hour will be led by Roue' Krimi

Wed 5/23

3:30pm - American Corner Field Trip to The Center for Maghrib Studies in Tunis (CEMAT)

We will leave the American Corner at 3:30 pm to walk together as a group to CEMAT where we will attend a lecture on "Constitution Drafting in the Arab World: Lessons and Landmines" given by George Washington University Professor, Nathan Brown. The lecture will be followed by a short discussion and light reception.

* Because we will be going on a field trip, the American Corner will close early, at 3:30 pm. If you wish to join us and don't make it to the AC by 3:30 pm, you may meet us at CEMAT. The lecture starts at 5:00 pm.

Thur 5/24

4pm - Eamon Granahan will hold the third installment of his conversation hour club. Previous topics included arranged marriage and controversial art. Please join him for the third conversation he will hold at the AC (topic to be determined).

Fri 5/25

3pm - Come ready to do some spelling! Please join us for the first annual AC SPELLING BEE! The event will kick off at 3:00 pm. Contestants will be asked to spell American English language words with American pronunciation of the letters and the winner will win a prize! So, start studying and come to compete or watch a true American tradition!
